In whispered interpreting (French, chuchotage) the interpreter sits or stands next to a small audience belonging to the target language whilst whispering a simultaneous interpretation of the subject being treated. No special equipment is required to carry out this type of interpreting. Whispered interpreting is used in situations where most of a group of people speak the source language and only the minority will not (this should ideally be no more than three people).
